Exhibition inspiration and ideas - Towers

Before idea creation can start, one must draw upon inspiration.  In this case i have researched various pre existing exhibitions in which inspired me:

OXFAM Tsunami exhibition

The combination of height, symmetry and use of outside space proves very effective.  Images are displayed at eye level and shown by themselves allowing the viewer to effectively engage in the message it is portraying.  This theme of towers can be implemented in our own exhibition.  Each student could have one tower each (size is dependant on exhibition space) to show off three pieces of work alowing the last side of the tower for a small biography of the student.  Because the towers seperate each student; this allows them to show off any work they want diminishing the viewers boredom of seeing similar images.  The name of the exhibition could be called "Towers".

Advantages:

  • Individual work:  the towers allow students to choose the work they want
  • Consistency
  • Less is more
  • quick setup time
  • The use of lights within the tower will allow work to stand out
Disadvantages

  • Cost: (would have to look into recycled/reused materials)
  • Could be considered as boring/un-engaging (may have to apply designs onto towers)

  1. Hi Savva,

Happy to know that you will start working with the "Behind Close Doors" concept. Remember that you'll have to present as many strong ideas as possible to your class to increase the opportunity of one of them being selected. Still, I don't see any images of your visit to the exhibition and your research related to the concept you were meant to be working with. Also, I can't see any work related to your CV. Again, and something that concerns me a lot: None of the people in your team (including you) are mentioning or putting pictures related to the WORK you want to exhibit. That will also be a point you will have to mention in your presentation next week. It really concerns me that I don't see anyone in the class taking notes of the points you have to cover in your research. As an obvious consequence this happens: I look at your blog one week after and I don't see any of the points covered. This is your personal journal and if I don't find images and descriptions of the work you have done it will be really hard for me to mark it. This is your individual mark, be sure to put everything related to your project in it. I do believe you have very good ideas, but you will have to work a lot this week as a team and individually to make a presentation that convinces your class. Be sure of covering the points mentioned in class: title, branding, show style, identification of type of work (meaning: pictures of the work all of you are planning to exhibit to give the group an idea of the work dimensions, materials, etc.), who are you planning to invite. Also, don't forget about the CV, it will be consider in your final marking.
    See you soon.
